FLVS Foundation and National Center for Simulation Partner for STEM Workforce Development

Last week, FLVS Foundation Executive Director Beth Brunner joined Lindsay Spalding, Director of Workforce Development at the National Center for Simulation (NCS), and George Cheros, NCS CEO, to formalize an exciting partnership. Through this agreement, FLVS and NCS will collaborate to bring cutting-edge modeling, simulation, and training tools to teachers and students, fostering STEM workforce development. This partnership represents a tremendous opportunity to inspire and prepare students for future careers in STEM.

We were also glad to have had three of our FLVS educators—Kimberly Ludlow, Tonette Davis, and Matthew MacDonald—attend the I/ITSEC conference. They engaged in impactful workshops, talks, and events, exploring innovative tools and technologies showcased by leaders from industry, military, government, and academia. Below you can view photos from the event!

This year’s Foundation Basket Fundraiser was a tremendous success, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone who bought tickets and those who generously donated baskets. We are especially grateful for how smoothly everyone adapted to our new virtual platform! Congratulations to all our winners—you can see some of their joyful moments in the photos below. Thank you for your continued support of the FLVS Foundation!

FLVS Foundation Joins the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations

The Foundation has received approval from the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations for matching funds to support three program focus areas benefiting FLVS teachers and students.

STEM – The Foundation has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Center for Simulation to further expand STEM camps for students. In addition, programs in the application of STEM technology will be provided for FLVS teachers and support staff by way of in-person learning at the Annual Professional Learning Conference (APLC), virtual learning seminars for up to 25 teachers, and various STEM activities throughout the year. This important program is being created because of feedback from teachers and students who participated in the Foundation’s past two years of STEM camps.

Lockheed Internship Program  – The Foundation is working alongside FLVS Career and Technical Education leaders in collaboration with Lockheed Martin to develop a new student internship program. Students will be selected to participate in a pre-internship learning opportunity on interviewing skills, presentation skills, and other important communication techniques. Two to four FLVS students will be then selected for the Lockheed paid internship, after applying and interviewing directly with the company. During the internship, students will learn about engineering, assembly, program management, manufacturing support, and planning. Lockheed Martin is also funding Grant for Great Ideas STEM Grants. More information on the grants will be announced in November.

Florida Scholars Academy (FSA) – The Foundation is working to prevent recidivism   by partnering with FSA leaders to implement a program that incentivizes students to continue their education and graduate or attain their GED through FLVS Flex. Those who do not have internet access, a laptop, or both, may have the opportunity to be provided with these tools by the Foundation.
